There is no secret that Medium has grown from humble beginnings to become an online media powerhouse and with that rise in popularity has come growing pains for the site and its creators, some of whom are looking for alternate ways to make money. But don’t worry, if you want to make money on Medium, there are plenty of options out there!
Step 1 - Write a Story on Medium
You are probably here because you want to make money by writing on Medium. The first step is simple: Go and write a post! Get an audience used to your voice and your style, and get them interested in what you have to say.
This can take some time; it took me over 6 months to go from 1 follower to 10,000. But persevere it will be worth it. If you’d like some help or inspiration getting started, check out my guide How To Start Writing On Medium.
Step 2 - Make Your Post Shareable On other Mediums
A good shareable headline draws people in and holds their attention long enough for them to read your opening paragraph.
If you can get someone reading, they’re much more likely to click through, so it’s worth putting some thought into your headlines. For a detailed look at crafting powerful headlines, check out Headline Hacks by Coschedule.
Promote Your Content: You may have a great piece of content, but no one will ever see it if you don’t promote it!
Step 2 - Choose an Article Category
This is where you're going to be posting your articles. Use these categories as a starting point, but don't let them limit you: if there's a category that's similar or tangential and would fit your target audience better, by all means, use it! You can also create new categories so long as they're relevant and good for SEO.
Remember, Google loves having lots of content in one place. So keep it fresh, keep updating with new stuff, and chances are good that people will find you easily (and often). Happy blogging! Step 3 - Formatting your post: Writing an awesome title. Trust me when I say that titles matter more than most writers realize.
Step 3 - Choose your post length on Medium (maximum 6000 characters)
I have found that posts exceeding 6000 characters in length are harder to read and less likely to be shared. I would stick with 6000 characters if you're just starting out. This is a good target for most people writing about personal experience, although it depends on your topic of course.
However, if you know that most of your readers can handle long-form posts then write more! The extra will make sense at Step 6 where we'll be trimming down our drafts anyway. Once you've chosen a suitable length, go ahead and click Next and we'll move on.
Choosing Relevant Keywords Once here you can use KWFinder or Google's Keyword Planner. We’ll choose KWFinder as it’s an incredibly powerful tool in terms of finding exactly what kinds of topics people search for when they want information relating to your niche: So plug away at those words until you get something interesting.
Step 4 - Add tags
In addition to writing your title, it's a good idea to also add tags. Tags are used as search keywords. When readers want to find articles similar to yours, they'll use these tags as search terms.
For example, if you wrote an article about how to make money on medium, you would add these tags make money on medium, microblogging website, social media site
Manufacturing is any process concerned with producing real physical goods. The output of manufacturing is referred to as manufactured products or manufacturers (in some contexts).
A common synonym for manufacturing is a factory which may refer to buildings or complexes within which manufacturing takes place. These generally include industrial buildings but can also be warehouses and even transportation facilities such as railroads or aircraft production lines.
Step 5 - Set Publication Dates
Once you have your ideas, write and format each post. Once they’re complete, set a publication date of when you want them published. Keep in mind that your publication date is going to be based on when LinkedIn automatically publishes your content.
You can schedule up to three months in advance, which means you may want to publish some posts immediately and schedule others for later depending on when you need them published.
Promote your posts: Now it’s time to promote your newly created blogs! This can be done by sharing a link back to them from relevant social media channels (such as Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram) or by sharing individual articles with specific people via direct message on LinkedIn.
If you plan to do both, we recommend sending out an initial share with an added personal note explaining why you wrote it and tagging any influencers who would appreciate it most.
Step 6 - Choose your Contributors
You can choose up to 5 contributors. You must fill out at least one of these fields: User Name, Username, and Bio. If you plan on publishing more than one piece of content a day, you might want to add another contributor as well. Contributors are ranked according to their authority by the medium. com's algorithm.
The higher-ranked contributors (both in a number of followers and in your own opinion) should write your most important posts. These posts will usually be published within an hour or two from being submitted since they have been written by high-authority writers who tend to create high-quality posts quickly.
Remember that everything on the medium is public so make sure your contributed work reflects that of a professional business person. Also don't forget to enter the URL for each post into its respective Twitter bio, Google+, and LinkedIn bios. Medium automatically links these URLs together! Go ahead and signup for accounts today!
Step 7 - Edit and publish your post on Medium
Go back and look over your work. Make sure it sounds professional, flows naturally, and doesn’t contain any spelling errors or grammar mistakes. Once you’re happy with it, publish your post!
conclusion
Writing for an audience of your peers can be fun and rewarding but it still works. You have to put in the effort, and you have to keep writing regularly. Yes, a certain amount of luck is involved, but if you follow these tips, I can almost guarantee that people will start reading your stuff. And that’s when it becomes not just fun but lucrative!
